The 'Kindle' March 10, 2010 Sharon A. Francis (Portland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow.. I received this from my husband for Christmas.. I had seen them advertised and I am an avid reader, but this just did not interest me.. I thought... no.. I don't think I would like that.. These were thoughts to myself... my husband and I never even discussed this product.. Low and behold, Christmas morning I opened two presents from him...the Kindle and a Leather cover for the Kindle.. I said, "oh, yeah, gee, great how nice.. (I was disappointed) How funny is that... I love this.. there are not words enough to describe how wonderful this handy little book reader thing is.. The convenience of it.. I have paperback books all over my house.. Well, no more. My husband keeps adding money to my Amazon gift card so I can continue to purchase books for my Kindle (which takes about 10 seconds to download).. It's just perfect.. simply amazing.. You've got to try one... I have a 'skin' for mine.. I also purchased a beautiful little red M-Edge padded zip around cover so I can carry it in my purse and it won't get damaged (this cover's a perfect fit for the Kindle and very well made) My Kindle goes everywhere with me... P.S. I have not found one book that I've wanted that can't be purchased for my Kindle.. How great is that !!
Kindle has promise, but lots of room for improvement March 10, 2010 Kenneth Niemann (Elliottsburg, PA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off, let me say I'm a techie kind of guy. I've usually built my own computers for the past 20-years, I'm a professional photographer and have shot digital for the past ten years, and new technology is often fascinating to me. All that said, the Kindle 2 is "OK". I bought it originally to reduce the number of books and magazine I carry with me while I travel. In that respect, it does a good job. I receive USAToday daily, PC Magazine monthly, and have two books on it. The great thing about it is that when I'm reading a book (in the the most recent case, Nelson DeMille's "The Talbot Odessy"), my reading place is synced between my Kindle and my iPhone, on which I have the Kindle app, so I'm never without something to read. The Electric Ink, as they call it, is pretty legible. However, the resolution is not great on the illustrations from USAToday. Also, you can only download to the Kindle if you have an AT&T signal -- NOT WiFi.
IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: color screen, higher resolution, ability to use WiFi as well as AT&T to download, backlit display that can be turned on or off, more places where you can easily place your fingers to hold it without hitting a key accidentally.
Stay away from the kindle!! March 10, 2010 Local Girl (Hinesburg, VT) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Protect your local economy and shop at your local bookstore!! The kindle does nothing to support your neighbors - SHOP LOCAL!!
LOVE my Kindle! March 10, 2010 Susan Helms (Colorado) I really love my Kindle -- it is my favorite toy. I'm a voracious reader and enjoy reading all sorts of books from mysteries to biography, action-adventure, history, and current events. While I love getting books from my public library, they don't always have what I want and I hate being without something good to read when traveling or when snowed in at home. Being able to download a new purchase (even slowly due to our rural location) is a real luxury.
The Kindle is easy to use and seemed a natural way to read after only a couple of chapters.
How Did I Ever Live Without a Kindle? March 10, 2010 Marsha M. Phillips (Milwaukee, WI) Love the portability of having a newspaper, magazine or book all in one convenient Kindle - plus we're saving trees! Slim and lightweight! I carry my Kindle everywhere I go which encourages me to read the articles and the books that I have downloaded. I wish that the Kindle displayed the time of day - but other than that it is worth more than what I paid.
